Common Questions & Answers
Is AccessHealth Horry a Type of Health Insurance?
AccessHealth Horry is not a health insurance company. We are similar to a "referral service." We try to help you become established with an affordable primary care physician instead of relying on expensive ER trips and hospitalizations. We can help you find a medical home and primary care provider where you can get care at a reduced cost. We also have trained staff to help you apply for certain free medications through Welvista
(a mail-order pharmacy), and help you make your initial medical appointment.
What Services Can I Get?
AccessHealth Horry will assist you in choosing a medical home and primary care provider. If you qualify, you may be able to see a primary care physician at a reduced fee. We will also help you apply for free or reduced-cost prescription drugs.
Effective April 2024, AccessHealth Horry has hired community health workers to support clients in navigating access to insurance and address other social determinants of health that impact the quality of their lives.
How Much Do Your Services Cost?
AccessHealth Horry's services are free. You may pay a reduced fee--based upon your income and family size--to the primary care provider you choose. As a nonprofit organization with limited funds, AccessHealth Horry is NOT able to provide financial assistance for treatment, medical equipment, or surgery.
Can You Pay My Medical Bills For Me?
Unfortunately, no. We simply do not have the funding to pay for medical treatments and patient's past medical bills. We encourage patients to contact the business office of the hospital in which they owe money and ask about any charity programs available and how to apply for them.
Will You Pay for My Labs, MRIs, and Physical Therapy? My Doctor's Office Said You Would!

Will You Help Me Apply For Disability?
No, we are a very small non-profit group and do not have the expertise in this area. Our overall goal and mission is to help uninsured clients find an affordable primary care provider to manage your chronic medical condition and to offer medication assistance through Welvista enrollment. Relationships with primary care physicians are not to be used with the sole intention of using the physician to obtain disability. Please check your yellow pages for disability lawyers.
Will You Apply for Medicaid For Me?
No, we are a very small non-profit group and do not have the expertise in this area. Some of the medical homes offer Outreach Community Assistance, such as Little River Medical Center, Careteam+, and Healthcare Partners (if you are an established patient).
